Our writing contests have become so popular that our volunteer staff needs more help to tend our garden. With your support, we can sustain our family-friendly floral writing site. We have recently begun asking for a subscription to enter a contest. If you won a contest in 2019, you earned a life-time subscription and are good to go! If you’re new to the site be sure and read our Mission page to see all the wonderful benefits you can enjoy. Thanks for your continuing support!
If you love flowers, and pictures of flowers, you’ll enjoy two new posts featuring a special flower in India and the lovely countryside of Northumberland county in England. Special thanks to members Adrin Jason and Susan Dawson for inviting us into their worlds!
Honeysuckle, woodbine … by any name smells just as sweet! Shakespeare lovers may remember King Oberon’s description of Queen Titania’s flowery bed, from Midsummer Night’s Dream:
I know a bank where the wild thyme blows,
Where oxlips and the nodding violet grows,
Quite over-canopied with luscious woodbine,
With sweet musk-roses and with eglantine:
There sleeps Titania sometime of the night,
Lull’d in these flowers with dances and delight;
And there the snake throws her enamell’d skin,
Weed wide enough to wrap a fairy in.
Member Grainne Armstrong has created a prompt featuring this luscious flower. We can’t wait to read the stories inspired by one of our favorite summer flowers! To learn more about all the flowers in the quote from Shakespeare, read our article: Where the Wild Thyme Blows
Remember that all stories selected for the shortlist will also be eligible to be included in our upcoming ZenGarden.club Kindle books.
Good luck to everyone!
