As a child, I would always find myself running around a field full of flowers in the springtime. There was a great variety of plants, but my favorite had always been the funnel-shaped, candy scented, ombré colored freesia plant.
The smell of a freshly bloomed freesia flower brought warmth to my heart. It always reminded me of the smell of a bowl of fruit loops or a bag of skittles. I would always find them in many different colors and sizes. The white ones had always been my favorite. I would pick them off of their stem and wear them around in my hair as if I were a Hawaiian princess.
Throughout the winter, I always keep a freesia plant on my kitchen table. During the cold, snowy wintertime I sit beside it and think about my childhood memories of being underneath the warm sun, surrounded by blooming flowers.
Freesia flowers are my springtime until winter is over, then I get to look out my window and watch the flowers bloom all over again.
